Former Australian champion jockey Paddy Payne believes his sister Michelle should think about retiring from the saddle after undergoing surgery on injuries sustained in a fall on Monday.
Michelle Payne, who made history when becoming the first woman to win the Melbourne Cup last November, was injured in a fall at Mildura racecourse on Monday, with tests at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on Tuesday prompting abdominal surgery.

Paddy Payne thinks his sister has little to prove in the plate and should consider bowing out following her latest spill.
"She had a bad fall three years ago and we suggested then to retire, but she maintained she had more to give," he told www.theage.com.au.
"And now after what she has been through in the last few days, I think she should look at retirement. What's the point in chancing it?

"She's won a Melbourne Cup - that could never be taken away from her - and it might be time to get married and have a few kids and just take a break.
"You have got to at least give it some thought."
